Help & Glossary

New to Dymmer, or just curious what these words mean? Here's a plain-language guide to every concept you'll run into -- with a link to where you can try or buy each one.

Already know what you want? Search a domain to get started, or jump straight to your projects or your hosts.

Domain

A domain is the name people type to reach your site or send mail to you (e.g. example.com). Dymmer lets you register a brand-new domain, transfer one you already have, or renew one before it expires -- and automatically checks prices across every registrar we support.

  • Search and register a domain
  • Manage your existing domains
  • Transfer a domain to Dymmer

Zone

A Zone is a domain whose DNS records (A, MX, TXT, CNAME...) you manage directly in Dymmer, without necessarily hosting anything with us -- useful if you just want full control over where a domain points.

  • Create a DNS zone

Project

A Project is the container that groups everything you deploy for a site or app: its Hosts, Apps, Domains, Secrets, Actions, Logs and Metrics, organized across development, staging and production environments.

  • Create a project
  • See your projects

Host

A Host is a server -- your own, or one provisioned through Dymmer -- that Dymmer connects to over SSH to run commands, collect logs and metrics, and deploy Apps on it.

  • Add a host
  • See your hosts

App

An App is a deployed application or service running on one of your Hosts, inside a Project's environment -- a website, an API, a background worker, anything you run.

  • Create a project to add your first app

Secret

A Secret is an environment variable -- an API key, a database password, a token -- stored per project and environment, injected into your Apps without ever showing up in a deployment script or a Git repository.

  • Create a project to manage its secrets

Action

An Action is a one-click, pre-defined command you can run against a Host straight from Dymmer -- restart a service, clear a cache, run a maintenance script -- without opening a terminal yourself.

  • Create a project to set up actions

Log

A Log in Dymmer is a live tail of a file or a systemd journal unit on one of your Hosts, streamed straight into your Project's dashboard so you don't have to SSH in just to see what happened.

  • Create a project to follow its logs

Metric

A Metric is a numeric value Dymmer samples periodically from a Host -- CPU, memory, disk, or the output of your own script -- and charts over time inside your Project.

  • Create a project to track its metrics

Bundle

A Bundle is a ready-made package -- a domain plus hosting extras like a website, SSL and a database -- offered automatically for eligible domains during the purchase flow, so you don't have to assemble a Project by hand.

  • Search a domain to see available bundles
